The term 'Lucid Dreams' literary means coherent or clear dreams. Thus, in simple words but difficult in concept, it refers to being completely aware of oneself during dreaming with the ability to control or manipulate the dream if desired.
Inducing Lucid dreams in its highest intensities in the likes of which mentioned above, can be a great gift and results in experiences of a lifetime. Imagine you are dreaming about great things happening to you and since you know that it is a dream, you go on doing any kind of adventure or anything that you put your mind to as you know that you will never get harmed.
In the light of all the above it can be understood why people so strongly want to develop the skill of inducing lucid dreams. It acts as a doorway in your life through which you can occasionally visit a world where you can do and enjoy whatever you want to and then come back to your normal life. Ability to induce lucid dreams can be developed by regular practice of the below mentioned five techniques.
The first and the foremost step towards inducing lucid dreams is to be able to recall dreams. Many people dream and then forget after they wake up. In this case, even if you have a lucid dream, chances are that you'll forget. Moreover dream recall with the help of a dream journal or an audio recorder develops awareness about dreams in general.
Secondly, Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams refers to when a person passes from the wakeful state to the realms of dreams with complete self awareness and knowledge and can control the dream imageries which he sees or experiences thereafter. Hence, WILD techniques to keep oneself awake during the hypnogenic state, which is the bordering time between wakefulness and sleep would be to count your breaths, chant slowly in your mind, visualize yourself ascending or descending a flight of stairs and counting the number of stairs, etc. Remember that your objective is to let your body rest and go to sleep but keeping your mind awake by focusing at the same time.
MILD on the other hand means Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams. Such induction involves affirming your mind and the subconscious that you would remember something, a detail or a fact from your dream. In this way, your mind remains conscious during your sleep and when it sees that object in the dream you realize that you are dreaming.
Fourthly, mention may be made of the sleeping - waking exercise in which you sleep during normal hours but set your alarm and get up in the middle during a time when you normally enjoy intense sleep. Do something to keep yourself awake for an hour or so and then go to sleep again. In this way, waking up and sleeping at a time when you normally enjoy deep sleep gets your mind confused regarding whether you are actually sleeping or not. This can result in lucid dreaming when you go back to sleep again.
Lastly, in today's time of advanced technology a discussion can never be complete without stating what solutions the technology has in store for you. In inducing lucid dreams, mention may be made of the binaural beats which essentially refers to input of two different and slightly offset sound vibrations in each year via headphones which goes to the brain and results in the synchronization between the two hemispheres. This binaural beats lead your brainwaves to reach the state which is conducive to lucid dreaming. Other technological stuff such as specialized lights or dreaming masks can be used. Whatever might be the technique you use in inducing lucid dreaming, be sure that you go on affirming your mind completely about remembering your dreams and being aware of them.
